February of 2009 marks my one year anniversary of finding out about Asperger Syndrome. I have another journal and some buddies, but I've only told two of them. Their opinions on the matter were nearly polar opposites. As I've told some family members, a couple other friends, and one co-worker, I've found the same reactions. I'm either met with total lack of surprise or complete rejection of the idea. I attribute these various reactions to how intuitive the person is and/or how well I've convinced them I'm normal.
Anyway, “coming out” to buddies I've had on Livejournal for years is now a terrifying thing. I view them as safe and do not want to jeopardize what I have. At the same time, I want to learn more and at least lurk around some pertinent communities with relative ease. As much as I hate fragmenting my time and effort by having three journals (on in MySpace, too), until I can feel more comfortable with the truth of my own identity and the possible reaction and perhaps rejections of others, I've chosen to make a new name and hang out here.
I'm writing this in case anyone from the groups I'm about to join wants to find out more about that new member. :) Of course, I'm not opposed to making new friends this way. In fact, it would be thrilling to be “friended”, but my reciprocity is something that needs improvement.
